I have never heard of pesarattu until I started cooking (I was one of those people who hardly visited kitchen except for munching something until I was 23). Things changed and sadly I had to make my own food (duh!). It’s such a easy recipe that’s foolproof even if you miss one or two ingredients {except salt :)}. I try make it at least once every 2 weeks as it’s so good for you. It’s 100% made of lentil and tastes yummy too.

Any whole lentil works for this recipe with green gram dal. I even used red kidney beans and the pancake (dosa) turned out well.


Green gram dal – 1 cup
black eyed peas – 1 cup (or any kind of lentil)
Red or green chillis – 2 nos
Salt – to taste
Coriander leaves – 1 bunch (gives you nice aroma)


  • Grind all the above ingredients coarsely
  • Take a hot tawa and make some yummy pancakes
  • Serve with some chutney or dip.
